Old Bear Re-Issues Classic Underground Post-Rock LP
Back in 2009 James Duke, then playing electric guitar for John Mark McMillan and others, released an amazing, and way ahead of its time, post-rock album entitled, and under the name, All The Bright Lights. In the tradition of groups like Explosions In The Sky and Hammock, All The Bright Lights featured beautiful, swirling, ambient tones and slowly arching melodies, but wasn’t afraid to show some form and structure here and there as well. It was celebrated by those who heard it, but remained largely off the radar.
Duke continued to play for McMillan, and has more recently lent his considerable style to projects by Matt Redman, Elevation and Jesus Culture. Basically, when you hear “modern worship” music sounding much cooler than you think it should be sounding, there’s a good chance Duke is in the room with his amazing collection of guitars and effects pedals (some of which he has built himself.) He also blogs for the benefit of other guitar nerds, (or “aficionados.”)
Our friends at OLD BEAR RECORDS are re-issuing All The Bright Lights on vinyl right now, and PRE-ORDERS ARE LIVE. Supplies are short, so don’t miss out. Oh, and if you’re listening to our Spotify Mixtape you heard one of the songs already. You’re welcome!
