After an initial “Pilot Episode” that featured a conversation with veteran artist and guitar legend Phil Keaggy – as well as a smattering of clips from interviews JJT had stored up, we were off to the races. Grammy Award-winning producer Charlie Peacock was our first guest and we never looked back. Producer and artist Tommee Profitt, who has been alongside the rapper NF for all of his hits and has scored many amazing film song placements of his own, joined us for Episode Two. Since then we have been on a bit of a tear, with both legends and fresh faces. Buddy Miller, Amy Grant, Steve Taylor, Natalie Bergman, Kevin Max, Marc Byrd of Hammock, Waterdeep, Taylor Leonhardt, Liz Vice, Phil Madeira, and so many others. This conversation is not about a particular genre or market. It’s about spirit. It’s about the inspiration behind, beneath, and above some of the most exciting music we have ever heard. Rock, Gospel, Americana, Indie, Pop, Post-Rock, Alternative… it’s all here. We even found archival interviews with the late Rich Mullins and Larry Norman and brought them back in special ways.
This “Pilot Episode” unveils the scope and vision of this new venture, offers a sneak peek of several interviews in store for Season One, and includes examples of the music, reviews, and content that will be featured in every forthcoming episode.
Most episodes include both a feature conversation and a trip to the True Tunes Jukebox, where we listen carefully to a song, an album, or a collection of songs curated around a particular theme. Then we wrap it up with a short “Soapbox” moment. These are long-form conversations, produced carefully, and lovingly, to sound great on headphones. We believe that conversation is an art – and we treat it that way.
The format evolved over the first few episodes – but we have it dialed in pretty tightly now. We hope you enjoy it. We welcome your feedback and ideas.
