True Tunes 30 Year Class Reunion?? Why not! True Tunes officially opened our doors on June 10th, 1989. We’re looking to celebrate with a 30 year Class Reunion somewhere in the Chicago area on Saturday, July 6th. Details are still being worked out, but make sure to subscribe to the email list if you’re interested. We will likely also try to do a similar event in Nashville later in the Summer and maybe Southern California this fall.
Randy Stonehillis putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album, This Old Face, including some extra guitar goodness from long-time friend and co-conspirator Phil Keaggy. It’s definitely not too late to back Stonehill on his Patreon campaign and help bring this album across the finish line.
Speaking of Phil Keaggy, his newest project, a collaboration with fellow gunslinger Rex Paul, is called Illumination and it is sure to thrill rock fans. With a sound that lands somewhere in the neighborhood of late-80s era YES, blended with more modern drum sounds and mixing techniques, Illuminationcovers new ground for Keaggy and marks his third significant collaboration in as many years, following last fall’s stunning instrumental project with Jeff Johnson (Cappadocia) and his wild jazz jam collection Bucket List with Jerry Marotta and Tony Levin. There will be a lot more coverage of all things Keaggy coming soon.
Starflyer 59’snew album, Young In My Head, is available for a “First Listen,” with a nice write-up, from NPR music. To my ears it’s the best SF59 record in a long time.
Leigh Nashjust released a Twentieth Anniversary re-dux of Sixpence’s massive hit, “Kiss Me,” which is nice. But the digital B-side, “God Gave Me Horses” is really nice. Listen for it on this week’s True Tunes Gallery Stage Spotify Mixtape or go find it on your own.
Hannah Miller’s voice continues to show up on film and television, and everyone is the better for it. She has a new single out, called “Still I Rise,” which you may have heard on ABC’s Station 19. She also had three songs in the new Pilgrim’s Progress film, under the name Heart of the Sea, which is a collaboration with Jars of Clay’s Charlie Lowell.
Bill Malloneerecently announced a deep discount package for fans to buy his entire catalog digitally – 82 albums – for just over $122. That’s just a tad over $1.50 PER ALBUM. If you’re looking to catch up on the work of one of Americana music’s most prolific and celebrated workmen, here’s your chance. And if you’re a serious fan, he’s also looking to unload the classic Martin guitar on which he composed over 1,000 songs! https://billmalloneemusic.bandcamp.com
Charlie Peacock has launched a new blog and a new Etsy store that features paintings and prints made in Nashville. The blog, which also includes some incredible parallel offerings from his wife Allie, is new, but is already revealing some important truths. It’s definitely some important reading.
